Artificial Gravity – Are we going fully Elysium?

Living without Gravity

After always talking about colonizing space and living in spaceships, sharing the dreams of visionaries like Elon Musk, have you ever thought about what these concepts might look like?

We know from the ISS, the space laboratory, which is also used for extensive research into the effects of weightlessness on the human body, that weightlessness can influence our health to a negative degree.

Therefore, without gravity, the astronauts or residents must train several times a day to stay in shape

Imagine, to colonize space, you can use a spaceship as a first step. Compare that with the countless space movies you have probably watched in the past.

As you can see, they all have artificial gravity at the start and run around, working like on Earth, while you are just on board a huge spaceship.

All Science Fiction?

Not really!

There are many concepts to choose from that use artificial gravity, especially with rotating parts of a spaceship. With these you can use the centripetal and centrifugal forces to stick to the bottom of the spacecraft.

For those of you who are interested, here are explanatory videos and some graphics, with concepts that are actually under consideration.

Artificial Gravity Concepts

Our path into space?

To be honest, it sounds a bit like sci-fi to think about using artificial gravity on a spaceship, but it is actually possible to take this step towards humanity conquering the universe.

However, technical possibility and reality are still two steps. We must acquire resources that are outside our planet to achieve everything necessary.

Why mine asteroids?

Well, to introduce artificial gravity, which doesn't give you a spin worm, or pump the blood into your feet, you need a gigantic spaceship and therefore a lot of money (~trillion USD) and millions of tons of resources.

I deeply hope to live a life in which I can experience it, to see such a project become a reality.
